As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I have listed a few strategies to help you enjoy a great meal while not eating so much you end up sleeping through the rest of the afternoon and missing out on the fun with your friends and family.
1. Enjoy! It is so important to enjoy this meal that happens once a year that cultivates good relationships. It is a time to feast and celebrate with those that matter the most to you. You want to enjoy each moment and savor each flavor.
2. Set an intention of what you will eat and how much you will eat. The best way to enjoy not only the meal, but the whole day with family and friends is to eat just enough, but not too much. Grab a bite or two of each dish so you can enjoy the flavor without feeling stuffed.
3. Make sure to eat a good protein source (that delicious turkey) and fill up one side of your plate with a green salad. This will help you enjoy the few bites of the rest of the dishes without feeling deprived.
4. Eat a small, protein-based snack a few hours before the big meal. A ravenous person is not a rational person. If you sit down for the meal hungry, but not starving, it will help you stick to your intention of what and how much you will eat.
So enjoy this good meal that invites good connection with the people you love!
